It’s the end!

Team Pugh (as pictured above) stayed away from supermarkets for a whole year and two days ago that year came to an end. They also blogged every day during that year on their site A Year Without Supermarkets  and are now giving themselves a well earned rest from blogging.

I have to admit I only started following them towards the end of their journey, but I had a look back through their blog and found the following:
Way back at the beginning, they introduced themselves and set themselves some rules to follow.  Then they got on with the business of blogging.  They started their challenge back in November 2012, but began writing the blog a little before that with the first post I could find being about Apple Saucery.  Maybe I should take note as I have had a big bag of overripe apples sitting in my fridge waiting to be turned into something for a little while now!
There was quite a lot of interest in their challenge and they were featured on the radio here and here!  During the year they had lots of adventures with food, chickens  sticking to their weekly budget and avoiding supermarkets. They appreciated the ordinary miracles in life and contemplated various issues such as the ethics of Freeganism. They also came up with a brilliant ABC of supermarket-free. They saved themselves £895.23 over the course of the year on their shopping which I think is pretty good going!

I really enjoyed reading their blog and found it to be a lovely heartening read! Well done Team Pugh on completing your year and thanks for the inspiration!

So far I have given up shampoo and supermarkets as part of My Year of Eco Challenges and now I’m preparing to give up plastic too. If you have a moment I would really appreciate it if you would consider sponsoring me with an action on my DoNation page.
